Today, Aug 24th is National Waffle Day. It is, of course, started in the US. And the reason was to honour the anniversary of the patenting of the first US waffle iron invented by Cornelius Swarthout of Troy, New York. Actually, this is the 2nd time to celebrate in the year. The first is March 25th, which began in Sweden, to mark the beginning of spring and is celebrated by the eating of many waffles.
The thing was that I thought I saw a waffle maker in the new house, and had wanted to make waffle for breakfast yesterday. But when I googled Waffle, the information about National Waffle Day popped out. Great Timing!
We have heard about this unique, interesting dish called “Chicken N Waffle” (from all the Food Network show that we watched..) Saltiness from the chicken and sweetness from the waffle and syrup, how can they go together, we thought. The Chicken N Waffle flavour also was one of the 3 new flavours for the Lays Potato Chip competition. We tried the flavour, and thought it was kinda interesting, sweet salty chips..
Well, so why not cook up a Chicken N Waffle dish on this very special National Waffle Day.
So here goes, a homemade oven-fried chicken with waffle and maple gravy. The maple gravy actually went very well with the chicken.
